MY1984, Flop (short of AeroFlop), 8v turbo - fuel pump engaged for 0.5 secs once the ignition is on. There's special relay used in those systems. As for modern (or even LH/CU) injection systems - 'pre-pump' function is obviously controlled by ECU not replay. But it's still necessary to enable good cold-start performance. I.e. to pressure up the fuel system before cranking.
Btw if I didn't use Flop for a week or so then I really heard (it was pretty loud) bubbles running out from return line in the fuel tank when 'pre-pump' took place.
