warp, not crack the head. HG is a DIY if you are brave Posted by nicknick [Email] ![]() ![]() In Reply to: Re: well, you may have a head gasket 'looming'-worth, jim K, Tue, 18 Dec 2007 09:42:28 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
there is MUCH assistance on this board (do you have a workshop manual? Tools?)
used/older cars always have a "what's next" aspect-heck so do newer cars!
only you can decide if it should warrant keeping it going or not.
how is the body? transmission? if it is pretty good, especially if it feels good and tight driving it, then you won't find a better car for close to that money, and who knows what that will need??
get it checked out first-don't expect the worst.
but, think of the costs that could be incurred-you go on a 300 mile drive, the car overheats (and you don't notice, as it is raining out and you are concentrating on the road)-the first you know is the car is failing.
AAA comes, tells you HG is shot. you get towed to nearest garage (never likely to be the best), they start the procedure (while you stay in a hotel for 3 days) and then tell you you need a head as yours is warped. they get a new one $1300???, and by the time you are done, you have a car that now may have damaged rings, you spent $2500 getting it fixed, $300 on hotels, plus you lost money cause you couldn't work.
get the picture? get it checked out-soon! good luck
