While I'm on the subject, and just for completeness, I installed a Clarion DBZ-575USB for my girlfriend over the weekend. It's a nice mix of features - front USB port, three pair of pre-amp outputs, a rear line in, and a two-line LCD display. The large display is quite nice - a good feature. The USB support isn't that great - there is "some noise" when playing from the hard drive between tracks, and it won't play from her Creative Zen Stone which the Sony GTX410 and Kenwood Excelon X591 I have both will. It plays fine from my cell phone and the flash drive.

I bought this unit specifcally because it had front USB and rear input - she has a DVD entertainment thingy in her car, so output from the DVD player pipes directly into the head unit in back... This is a rare combination of features, apparently.

I'm interested to look at the new CD-player-less head units. Blaupunkt has such a head unit that also has an SD card slot, which seems appealing.

Nice thing about these head units supporting USB - aside from the obvious convenience factor - is no CD player to break. It seems the thing that always breaks first in a head unit is the CD drive, so simply not using it means a potentially unlimited lifespan. I do love solid state... :)
