Silly question - why? Posted by Ari [Email] (#2847) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Ari) on Mon, 7 Jan 2008 06:34:53 In Reply to: WE should be promoting Saabs as collector cars, No Snaab, Sun, 6 Jan 2008 15:26:47 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
What is the value to the typical Saab nut of somehow making Saabs collectible? Yes, it would increase the value of the cars we now own. But if it did somehow happen, the price of the cars would increase. The $5000 decent TC today would be $25000 - and the only guys buying them would be collectors, speculators, and the idle rich. Folks that buy them to enjoy them would be priced out of the market.
Hey, I'd love it if the two-stroke Sonett in my garage (yes, there is one) were suddenly worth $50K. They only made 256 of them, and short of the original Sonett I, they are the rarest of Saabs. Yet I doubt I'd get $10K even if the rocker panels were packed with narcotics.
There was a time when ordinary blokes could buy a used Ferrari, work on it himself, and drive it. When even unloved models go for 90K, and they are suddenly 'investments', the only folks that can drive them are a lot richer than I am.
For one, I'm happy owning a car other folks don't want. More, less expensive, cars for me.
