I think you know where the NTC is -- as I recall from prior posts. It is a Negative Temperature Coefficient sensor. So, you can actually check the operation by measuring the temperature of the sensor and seeing how much resistance it produces. That signal is sent to the ECU to tell it how much fuel might be needed. So, it is a rather important piece of the puzzle......when the back side gets mucked up with deposits, they can insulate from the true temperature that the sensor is supposed to monitor to signal the ECU information. That is why when one fails, the idle is wacky. I hope I answered your question. There is some good info to read in Bentley as well, and the book can probably explain it better that I can.
