These can bring on a whole host of problems depending on where the leak is and how bad it is. If the leak is toward the interior side of the system, your dashboard vent selector will have little or no effect, and they might be variable, for example the floor vents will only turn on when you are decelerating. If the leak is closer to the engine, your idle speed will be too high or inconsistent, the engine can sputter on acceleration, your gas mileage will be all over the place, and the engine will generally lack power and fail emissions testing.
The fun part is that vacuum grommets, fittings and hose are all extremely cheap when you consider the benefit you will get when it's all working right.
