Classic 900s (or 99s or 9000s...) never had five lug bolts or lug nuts. Always 4 in a square pattern.

Some people commonly call the 1988 and later wheels "5-hole" because of the addition of the alignment/support pin between two of the lugs. Saab also switched the C900 over to the 9000 bolt pattern (slightly smaller), and lug bolts from lug nuts. It is quite easy to differentiate between an early wheel and a late wheel of the same style by looking for the fifth hole.

As for engines, yes, it's for all intents and purposes a bolt-in swap.

However...

I believe 1988 900ts had the LH 2.4 fuel injection. I would strongly recommend using that FI over the 86's LH 2.2 system. You'll get much more stable idle, and the added attraction of an FI system that a Tech 2 or ISAT can talk to. LH 2.4 doesn't say much, but it's better for troubleshooting than the LH 2.2. I did that to my 1986 Convertible, along with installing Direct Ignition.

The only issues with that swap are some minor electrical ones for the check engine and shift up lights, and you will need to install a apeedo from the later car, as the output for the cruise control is different, AND the LH 2.4 requires that information. Basically, all you need is the LH wiring harness that comes from the LH box, through the firewall and over the motor, and then to make the few additional connections to the rest of the wiring.

That part of the conversion may be more than you want to get into, however.
