Sounds interesting...
But how about the Saunaab? (Google it. The site won't let me post it)
I was thinking over the weekend about what to do with old Saabs... I've often wanted a trailer made from the back part of a 900 hatch... But that sounds like an awful lot of work that I don't have the space (or time!) to do.
So, I think I may have come up with a better plan...
Just tow a WHOLE C900...
Remove the motor, trans and probably shorten the springs a bit. Fit wiped-out outer CVs into the hubs (they're only there to hold the bearings together at this point). Not sure how to outfit the engine bay area. I was thinking some kind of removable device to act as a cooler. Removable so that if I ever had to haul a C900 motor someplace, I could just put it where it belongs...
Of course, other items could go there, like a generator...
Inside, pretty much remove the steering wheel and shaft (at least), but leave the dash for the radio. Take out the front seats to be able to extend the load floor/bed area. Leave hatches to stow stuff below the deck.
I'm guessing that since I see cars flat-towed all the time behind RVs, that it really should not be an issue flat-towing a C900 behind a 9-5. Maybe even get one of those electric over hydraulic brake setups for trailers to actuate the 900s rear brakes.
Once the motor, fluids, etc. are out, plus the other things, the shell is down to ummm...2000-2200 lbs. It is self-contained, has no tongue weight to speak of (though that may be an issue), and, done this way, it really doesn't matter if it is a hatch or sedan. The Sedan or 5-door might be a bonus though...
