Keep 17 mm and 19 mm open end wrenches in the car and next time it refuses to run crack loose the banjo bolt on the front end of the fuel rail. If the fuel pump is doing it's job then you'll have gas spraying out under pressure (put out that cigarette). If no gas sprays out then you probably have a fuel pump defect (or an empty fuel tank). Re-tighten the hollow banjo bolt carefully. Spark at the distributor HT lead is a generally good sign but doesn't prove that the plugs are sparking. A good check for that is, after the car has refused to restart, pull the plugs one at a time and see if they are wet with gasoline. Good luck
