To do that right you'll need an inch pound torque wrench and a Saab special tool which is just a little spacer (although the Saab service manual tells you the thickness so you can make one of your own). If you have a local Saab independent mechanic that you're chummy with he may let you photocopy from his manual. Sometimes dealers will let you do that too if you schmooze the service writer. You can adjust the rear (1st and reverse) band with just an inch pound torque wrench from the outside of the unit once you have the spec. but you'll need the specifications, torque wrench and the appropriate spacer to do the front (second gear) band and you have to remove the rear pan to access it's adjusting bolt. You'll need the correct square socket also. The specifications are different for different versions (years) of the T37 so be sure to look at the correct service manual version for yours. There was never a four speed automatic for the C900 Saab. (Some automatic transmission parts catalogs suggest this but it is typologic baloney.) From 1979 until 1993 ('94 for the convertible) the only automatic transmission ever fitted to the Saab 900 was the 3 speed Borg-Warner T37 (T35 for 1979-'80). The Saab 9000 during that era was fitted with the ZF 4HP18 four speed automatic. The 9000 has a transverse engine and so a "sidewinder" transaxle. The new generation 900 (post 1993) has a four speed automatic but it too is a transverse mount unit so it won't fit in a classic 900 at all. Be very cautious if you adjust those bands. Sometimes tightening the bands on a high mileage unit that's working OK is not a good move and re-adjusting them just a tiny bit can push old bands over the edge. It's a finesse procedure. Good luck
