The bad news is that my car has finally been diagnosed with problems too big for me to handle. I guess I am going to have to sell it as is, a decent fixer upper or for parts. Which makes me really, really sad as I had some high hopes for her, poor little underdog. But now I've gotten from an indisputable source that she's going to need transmission work. And I just can't afford to put in that kind of money.
The good news (sorta) is now that I am TOTALLY hooked on the Classic Saab. Especially the 900 vert. I just don't want to drive anything else AT ALL. I even begged my friend to let me drive his Saab when I go home, he's so amused by my Saab frenzy that he's gonna borrow a car since his main Saab is outta commission and he's been driving the "spare". *sigh* It's an automatic, but I guess beggars can't be choosers.
So, NOW I am scouring ebay and CL (ok, so maybe I have been peeking at them for months, even when my car was brand new....) for a good deal on a well-maintained vert. I asked a lot of questions on some that didn't have too much info listed....... but I'm not sure what are the specific questions I should be asking? I asked about stuff like the stick popping out of reverse and rust.
I'd like to spend between $2,500-3,000 but would go closer to $4,000 for something really special. (ie one owner, seats still stitched together, minimal cracking on dash, low miles) Does that seem about right? I don't mind spending extra if it means I won't be putting as much into repairs later.
Any advice would be welcome. And if anyone wants a real underdog of a vert and needs to know the details of mine please let me know. She's a sweetie and I would love to see her fixed back up instead of scrapped for parts. I just can't afford her.
xoxo,
Amelia
