Just addressed this today.
My brake pedal developed play at the pushrod pin that attaches it to the master cylinder, and the return spring isn't strong enough to pull the pedal all the way back. Bumps were apparently enough to rattle the loose pedal and trip the brake pedal dump valve for the CC. I don't think there's a way to fix the loose pedal syndrome. If your 85 has the adjustable dump valves, you might be able to get away with pulling the plunger on the dump valve out a couple clicks, and let it reset. You need to figure out a way to depress the clutch and brake to pull the plungers out.
Since the bracket holding the dump valves and brake light switch is a pain to access and remove (knee bolster, air vents removed), I replaced both valves and the switch with new while I was in there. Also covered the little tab on the pedal that actuates the dump valves with some thin foam tape, to sort of compensate for the brake play. The new swtiches are noticably stiffer and don't adjust themselves as readily, but I still had to adjust the bracket, moving it toward the firewall to get the brake light switch to work correctly.
I've only done driveway testing so far.
