Hi,

Recently bought an '88 900TC 5-spd with 170k mi.

The 2 PO's ago it was sort of turned into an SPG with ground effects

wheels, sport exhaust possibly tweeked computer and a K&N air filter cone.

So I went to get it expected and it failed in MASS.

HC 1.09 and limit is 2.00 gpm in MA
CO 10.83 and limit in MA is 30.00gpm
NOx 3.27 and limit in MA is 3.00 in MA

So the mechanic said he could run this 3 part cleaner (for $85)through the injectors, TB and gas and most likely get it to pass since it is so close.

He also said that next year it will not matter about the high NOx. He had a thick accent and I couldn't follow him very well.

The car has a new head and a new turbo. It has a slight smell on start up and a tad of lightly colored smoke.

High NOx means it is running too lean, not enough fuel, Right?

I just ordered a can of BG 44K and will clean the TB. I also plan on getting rid of the K&N and going back to the stock air filter set up(I guess I am just anti-K&N).

So could the original owner has modded something that would do this.

I suppose the cat could be dying (170 k).

Any thought appreciated.

I have a "R" sticker on my car for "Rejected"

Ahhhhhh! I am a perfectionist and this is killing me.

Thanks,
Peter
