About 5 years ago, I installed DI into my 1986 900 turbo CV (that's Convertible). Pretty much everything you need is available by looking for 1990 9000 DI parts.

I'd have to agree, though, that if he's looking do do an aftermarket injection system, I'm not sure if the DI setup is the right thing. You certainly can trigger the DI cassette from other things, but I'm not sure how much of the ignition pulse shaping is done in the box, or in the cassette.

What I did was to also swap in LH 2.4 (1986 came with LH 2.2, if you recall). This gave me a system basically identical to what a 1990 9000 2.0 liter came with. I even grabbed the DI harness from a 1990 9000...

Basically, after the LH 2.4 is in, you need to get some bits from a 900 non-turbo with EZK and crank sensor. You need the main pulley, crank sensor and the oil pump cover (to mount the crank sensor). You also need the shutter wheel (what mounts behind the pulley for the sensor to sense...).

After getting the 9000 DI harness, I spliced a connector into the LH wiring to get me all the communication between the DI and LH. This connector mated with the one on the DI harness. There were a few other things I had to swap out: speedometer (LH 2.4 needs a different speed signal than an 86 speedo can give), and I had to fiddle with some wiring for lights, etc. Also, I had to make a connector to hook up the computer (ISAT or Tech 2) to talk to the boxes and see if they're OK.

One thing I had was the 1990 9000 turbo "red box". That box is a monster in a 900...

The thing about the LH 2.4 and DI (and anyone who owned a 2.3 liter 9000 with this combo knows...) is that there is absolutely no attempt to restrict boost or adjust timing UNLESS something is wrong... So basically, until the DI senses knock, it tells LH that all os OK, and LH senses the air inflow, and adjusts the fuel flow, and the turbo makes more boost, and draws in more air, and...

Ultimately, the first thing DI does is retard the timing a bit, when it runs out of that adjustment, THEN it starts pulling back boost. And it's a very much smoother boost restriction than the standard 900 APC has.

It's really, really easy to glaze the clutch with this setup, and I shudder to think what could become of the gearbox if it had a really grabby clutch.

Oh - I still had the Garret turbo, too. Never got 'round to installing the Mitsu...

Here's a not-very-up-to-date posting from my old website (soon to be updated...I hope...) that explains some of this:

(don't try to look at the other things, the whole site is not uplinked yet)

And some "after" photos:

Here are some pinouts for LH and DI components:

I sold the car last September because I wasn't driving it much, and I hoped someone else would be able to do that more.

Good luck!
