So in August I bought a car(my first Saab) from a close friend of mine back home in KY. A 1988 red Saab 900 Turbo Convertible. Through no real fault of his it started falling apart about 5 minutes after I got it up here to NYC. When I realized the tranny was shot I decided to sell her. That same day I saw a GORGEOUS 1994 Saab Turbo Convertible on ebay the bidding wasn't too high and the car looked AMAZING. (many of you followed me through this portion of my journey)
I called the seller and asked him how much to pull the auction as he posted that he was selling it also "on the street". He gave me a figure that matched exactly what I had made for 2 weeks pay and had been paid, in fact, that afternoon. It was about half what I expected. I posted the pix and the description on the forum and asked what everyone's opinion was. One guy said "after reading about all your troubles, I think that might be your new car, if it is as good as it looks, you should go for it, I have a feeling about this" several other people asked "Where is it?" (haha, I'm not that dumb!)
I told the owner I'd be in the next day, Saturday (I was leaving to fly home for Easter at 3pm that day) the guy said there were five people coming the next day and he never saw so many people go crazy for a used car! Haha, I said, I bet there'll be more than that, but I'm going to be there before 9am!!!!!
I bought it after a test drive, but gave him 3/4 of the money as he wouldn't have the title til monday and I was out of town til Thurs. He wrote me a receipt/promissary note and since it was through a dealer I was satisfied to take the keys and go. I came back and picked up the car and drove it home directly after landing. I managed to get towed the next morning for being about 3" into a school bus zone.
Since the car wasn't registered yet I wasn't allowed to drive it off the lot. I had to pay over $200 for towing and recovery... (at the Brooklyn Navy Yard Tow Pound [home of Rosie The Riveter, I'm told!] there is a sign when you go in that says "WELCOME TO REDEMPTION" that I found HILARIOUS) and another hundred bucks to get a guy to tow it 2 blocks so i could get in and drive it with my old plates on the car. I left that night after work to drive home to Louisville, Ky (850 miles) and register it.
When I got back my other car was no where to be seen. I called the pound but without a plate they couldn't really help. The next day my neighbor called and said "OMG are you ok??!?!?!?!" and I said, sure, why?
"Your car is on the corner, all smashed up and on fire with the Fire Dept and everything!!!!"
"I saw your car yesterday on the block and the doors were unlocked, the hood was open, so I closed it up for you, unsure wtf was going on......"
Turns out that while I was gone the city decided the car was abandoned and gave it to the Fire Dept of Brooklyn to use as a drill car. Jaws of Life and EVERYTHING. I would have liked to get my nice rims and perfect ragtop at a minimum.
*sigh*
Poor Daisy had a rough life and a fiery end.

Amelia
