Ignition amplifier Posted by Ari [Email] (#2847) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Ari) on Fri, 23 May 2008 04:12:14 In Reply to: Bad CKP sensor?, BGC, Thu, 22 May 2008 22:06:38 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
That's the box on the right hand fender. It amplifies the signal from the distributor. Without that, you have no ignition.
When the car is refusing to start, pull a wire off a spark plug and stick it on a spare spark plug. Connect the body of the plug to ground, and have someone crank the engine. Just a few times. If you see spark, the ignition amp is OK. No spark, suspect the amp.
To test the Crank position sensor, and a bunch of other things, put a voltmeter on the fuel pump fuse when you're cranking the engine. You should see 12 volts. If it's there for a couple of seconds then gone, suspect the sensor. If it remains there, the sensor is probably OK. If you never see voltage, suspect the fuel pump relay.
