1984 was the first year of having the holes for the SPG panels. The SPG prototype cars were built in 1984. I have a 1984 shell that originally had a 16 valve engine from the factory as a test car. I like to remove the 3" trim on the 1983 and earlier cars for a cleaner look.
The photo below is my 1983 turbo with trim removed. It has been retired since that photo was taken.
