Finally, something interesting. I bet it either won't be available in the US for five years of production (ahem, BMW 1 series) or will have an extremely limited choice (if any) of engines and gearboxes (that would be a hack at the US first-series Volvo S40) or it will be ridiculously expensive (1 series again) or something. It's too good to be true. I've been waiting for Saab to do some kind of nordic-spec car since nobody else has a clue. I'm thinking of a set of Hakkas, an awesome defroster that doesn't depend on AC and can be operated with thickly-gloved hands, and (these aren't standard anymore?!?) heated seats, preferrably not leather. A couple of engineering touches that could be passed of as "retro" (or whatever) like the hood-cap air intake and ample ground clearance and wipers that don't park in the ice accumulation zone and low-intensity, well-distributed lighting (especially the cornering lights up high) would be nice.
Notice I haven't mentioned AWD.... X not necessary. Go back to engineering school. If they insist on putting DSTC and ABS and all that other stuff on it, make it simple to turn off IN ITS ENTIRETY if we want to do a little e-brake-versus-throttle-understeer cornering.
But please, please, please tone down the styling and don't make it look like the one in the picture, which looks waaaay too much like a Nissan Mormon-o with humungous blind spots.
Okay, I've scratched that one, now I'll put it away for another six months. Sorry if I'm repeating myself.
