Okay. To update my post about my shuddering, shaking 87T. I checked the bump stops , which are good. I replaced the tie rod ends recently but not the ball joints. I felt absolutely no movement when pulling on the tire/rim with the car jacked up in any direction, but I imagine the ball joints could be binding up perhaps? This would presumably cause my problem. Also, I'm gonna replace bushings front and back since I'm installing a new used rear axle that I relocated 2 inches to the left recently like a total idiot trying to take a turn too fast and bumping into the curb (so dumb). BTW, steering wheel shakes a little but not any particular way. I'm gonna get new shocks . I've always loved and had excellent success with
Bilstein's but I've heard more than once from you guys that the Koni's are ideal. My exhaust is bone stock Saab and seems perfect. Now, Slyde's suggestion that it might be a bent rim seems very plausible to me. The thing is, they look perfectly round and balance out. However, I had two aluminum VW rims that balanced out and looked fine when spun but I literally could not drive the car they were on over 58 miles an hour without massive shuddering. So how can I be sure they are okay? Do I have to send them out to a rim place to get them trued? And BTW, Slyde's point that a 900 won't take bumps like a 9000 is obvious if you've driven both but why? I guess it's because they were engineered very differently? To me, the 9000 is a midsize luxury car that can be sporty, ala the 9000S vs.the
9000 Aero, Cadillac CTS vs. CTSV, any Mercedes vs. any AMG Mercedes, etc. But the 900 is more of a born and bred GT car made for sport touring. In bone stock form it'll outhandle a basic 9000 by a long shot and will be more sporty in every respect. Nothing wrong with the 9000 just that it was designed for a different purpose. That's my take, anyway. Gonna also check my cv joints and inner drivers. I know the right side is shot as I get a harsh banging from
that side when I hit the brakes in reverse. I jacked up the right side and turned the wheel back and forth. There is so much play, clanking and clunking coming from the inner cv joint I'm surprised it hasn't snapped yet.
Gonna replace control arm bushings while engine is out. Also, as Oldsaab eluded to, I'm getting some funky noises when in a full turn, not to mention the car wants to jump to one side if I'm at full lock and hit a pebble or something,
like the alignment is way out although I just got it lined up, hopefully the guy did it right.
I realize that thanks and salutations take up space in here but I'm gonna say it anyway, thanks. You guys are the coolest,
Philip
