Saabnut,
Sounds like everyone simply replaces the distributor rotor and cap regularly. Whether they are in working order or not.
*eager* As this is my first time, if I open up the distributor and it turns out I need a new ring or new cap, etc. and or do what you are suggesting will I be able to reconnect it no matter what so I can still drive to work?
Otherwise, I should probably wait until I order the parts and have them on hand and the time. I am putting off ordering parts because I am in the process of moving.
BTW: I cleaned the outside of the orange distributor cap this early morning and around the metal bracket clips. There was fresh oil leak sitting on top of the bracket and on the plate below.
Its beginning to look less threatening to me.
I have a pen to mark the sides of the distributor position so I do not have to retime it. I'll assume that when working on anything electrical I should disconnect the battery.
