Yip:
It has always been my understanding that the word "fluid" in automotive-mechanical parlance was reserved for liquids used in hydraulic situations, as in brake FLUID, auto tranny FLUID, hydraulic FLUID if you have a plow pump on your F-150, or on tractors, fork trucks etc.
Oil, or lubricant, otherwise.
Thus if it's a standard transmission car the stuff that's inside it is tranny lube, or gear lubricant, or tranny oil, or gear oil, or something. NOT "manual transmission fluid." There's no fluid coupling, no hydraulic pushing going on, it's just there to lubricate wear points and carry away heat.
Not that it really makes a heck of a lot of difference but just to stand up for standards.
Also while I'm at it, I keep reading people posting about people putting on "stainless brake lines" and I get all excited because those steel tubes down underneath can get pretty rusty, even with Saab's great alloy and great paint and coating. Then it turns out what they mean is brake HOSES, the ones where the rubber is jacketed in woven stainless steel wire.
I know those look cool but I have yet to encounter an original C900 brake hose that even shows minimal cracking in the outer jacket of rubber - - after circa 20 years of exposure to the worst nature can throw at them.
