Here's the lowdown - upon starting the car (87 SPG) after work this afternoon, the brake fluid light and park brake light were both on, and the tach was not working. All other gauges on the instrument cluster were functional. I switched off the key and restarted the car, thinking it might just be random electrical gremlins left over from the severe rainstorm a few days ago. The car restarted, with the same issues as mentioned before. The car ran fine for about 15 miles (aside from the belts squealing madly in between gears), until, when trying to take off from a stop light, the car simply died. The car would then not start and had to be pushed off the road. There were no signs of failure until this afternoon. The belts would squeal occasionally under a heavy electrical load (lights, stereo on right after start up, or with the foglights on at a when idling).

Another important point - there was also a scraping/rattling sound coming from the engine (which sounded as if it was idling higher than normal, but its hard for me to tell without a tach) which sounded eerily similar to the waterpump failure that caused my first beloved 900 to meet its end with a blown head gasket and warped block.

My first guess is of course the water pump - perhaps bearing/impeller failure caused the squealing belts and electrical issues? Am I close? Any and all info will be appreciated. I need this car back soon - I just started a new job and can't afford to call out now.....If there are any Saabers in the Buffalo/Niagara Falls/Lockport NY area, let me know if you have spare parts. I'm f-ing broke.

TIA
