center console questions

Alright 2 separate questions, my window switches kept popping out of the holder and dropping down inside the center console so I finally took apart the switches and cleaned them. Pretty easy, so I figured I'd attack the dome-light switch next. Turns out one of the reasons it didn't work was because it wasn't plugged in and the wire wasn't visible in the hole so I took off the console cover (see other issue below). The one connector I found that wasn't plugged into anything doesn't look like it is wide enough to engage all 3 contacts on the switch. I shouldn't have to look to hard for this should I? Note: I didn't actually remove the cover, since the shifter knob was still attached.
Second, recently picked up my car after having some work done, hadn't driven it in a while, but the ignition switch appears to be "recessed" from the center console; it is noticeably lower than the plastic and there is a gap all around it. I'm thinking it is held in place like the window switches from above, so I partially remove the console cover and discover that the ignition switch is actually firmly mounted to the car. Apparently I am missing some sort of plastic trim piece to fill this gap. Anyone know what this is called/where I can get one/how it is attached? Would love to see a picture of an intact center console.
