ok! better information to use for a diagnosis.
There are TWO reostats to dim, to the point of off, lights in the dash area. There are Four posts in the dash, one you press to reset the trip meter, one you pull to change the close time, one you turn to dim or off the lights in the speedo etc, The second reostat is below the light switch and hidden behind the turn signal stalk. This one often breaks in one of several ways, but when working it dims/off the lights from the radio all the way down, and includes the window lift and ignition light to (ah, it could be the other reostat for the stuff on the floor, but the radio and HVAC stuff for sure). There are two bulbs for the engire dash, and indivitual bulbs for all of the idiot light (shift up, rear window defrost active) and these are all accesible via the opening for the left speaker on the dash. you take the speaker out and get a flashlight and looke from the *outside* of the windshield to get a good look, the two for the illumination are usually in blue bulb holders, the rest are a flock of black ones. The all turn 90 degrees, or a bit more. to come out. If the resostat on the left side is spinning on the facia... it needs to come out and be repaired or replaced. do a search on removing the facia, I think you can do it by only pulling the two bolts on the left.
