The crumbly stuff is actually the original 1/8" foam badding that heat has disintigrated. If your old cloth is in good shape, you can reuse it. Just get some new spun polyester padding at Joanne's Fabrics to repad the hardboard panel. Then, yes you can reglue it with 3M headliner adheesive. If you want to replace it with new cloth, the options are endless. Personally, I like the look of microseude fabric. It looks pretty close to the original. Joanne's has that as well. I did mine in black.
