I made a device to start Saabs without the key - used it initially for starting our race car, then for starting a couple Saabs where the previous owners had lost or broken the key.
Simple stuff, although it's somewhat difficult to replicate the load reduction function of the factory switch. But, assuming you're not the type to leave every electrical component in the car on and your battery is in good shape you shouldn't really need the load reduction. I used my device for months when I was too lazy to replace the ignition switch in my '92 900Tc.
That said, replacing the switch is 2 hours of work and not all that hard. You'll probably need to remove one front seat, the center console, and the funny nuts, but it ain't that bad...
