I ordered green LEDs (2) which came in a holder which was plug-n-play for the two larger Instrument Lights (accessible thru the speaker hole). Way too bright! And like someone here said - you lose all adjustability. I ended up using LED in left socket, regular bulb in right socket. It is a bit brighter on the left, but I have plenty of light and I have the adjustability back using that rheostat you discovered. After a couple months I don't notice the difference left-to-right. Much better.
