1986 900S. Drivers side window frozen. The motor gear would try and turn
both ways but would only move about a 16th of a turn then stop. When I first got the car I had to fix both front windows as neither would open. (Driving 3 hrs. home in the rain (couldn't open sunroof) on an 85 degree night with the heat on (clogged radiator)and only one headlight was NOT fun.)
So I got everything out of the door, greased all the tracks, sliders etc, all seemed fine. Then I separated the motor from its gears and noticed as I spun the little sun gear it would bind and lock in place. Sometimes it seemed like the interior gear would freewheel, as if the outer and inner gears were not directly linked. Even cleaning the interior of the gear housing with brake cleaner helped at first then it bound up again. The flat plate on one side of the housing is riveted on. I considered prying it off then realized that even if I did I would probably not be able to a)fix the gears b)put the plate back on again. FWIW the motor itself functions perfectly.
Has anybody taken one of these units apart and refitted it?
Other suggestions welcome.
Best Regards,
2nd Saab
