So I pulled the engine outta my car, which wasn't so bad... and I've been doing some cleaning and inspecting. It seems the tranny is a rebuilt unit as it seems much cleaner than the engine casing, the bolts that connect the two have obviously been wrenched on, it has over 200,000 miles and doesn't have any of the whine or noise I hear about or am familiar with (my poor 9000's pinion is whining like my kids when they're tired and can't find their blankets :) Also, the clutch isn't stock, it was made in England but doesn't say much more than that, and if you'll notice in the pics there is a "GM55602" and "816080" number plate on top of the front case. Also, there is a metal sticker you can see in the pics that, I guess, was put on by the rebuilder. All I can discern is that it ends in a "B" or "P" and then as "S" or a "5".. Obviously I could be all wrong and the tranny is original but there is another indication. Since I pulled the engine to change the crank pulley, all engine mounts, seals, water pump, blah, blah, I figured I'd change the inner driver and tripod bearing on the right side to fix the shudder I have felt on hard acceleration I've felt since I bought the car. I "knew" it was the inner driver and tripod causing the trouble but now am not so sure. I included a pic of the right side inner driver, which doesn't seem worn, a lot like the left side driver. However, when I pulled the tripod out of the right driver the needle bearings fell off of it immediately. Could that be the only trouble? I have looked and looked at the pic of the worn inner driver the guy from Nysoc posted after he changed his on the 89 red vert he bought (such a great resource, that guy) and mine seems to be fine relative to his old one.

Anyway, sorry so long but I love this stuff and am interested in your interpretations,

Philip
