Scenario:

* Engine/transmission pulled from junkyard car
* Engine/transmission suspended on hoist, easy access
* Engine/Transmission is from a 89 900 16v normally aspirated

Problem
* I cannot for the life of me get the clutch/pressure plate/slave cylinder off (we'll call it CPS from this point on.)

* Donor Car was in good shape in yard. Quick look indicated a new CPS job.

* Got home and followed directions exactly. I am not a novice.
* Since CPS was not in car (and no longer compressible by clutch cylinder) I went for the legendary three nut scenario.
* Followed sequence properly.

NOTHING! I could not get the CPS to remove. After much looking I saw that the diaphragm fingers had "Climbed" over part of the bearing/slave cylinder.

*Three fingers were not aligned with other fingers. They sat next to one another. Surmised this is why the car was junked. Owner was tired of dealing with car.

*Diaphragm was no longer on flywheel pins. It had jumped about 1cm out of alignment. No amount of twisting, hammering, cursing would make it move. Had to CAREFULLY cut around alignment pins so plate would sit flush on flywheel again.

* I tried larger nuts, sockets, pry bar...you name it with no luck.
////
* I eventually decided I needed to cut diaphragm finger out. If the pressure plate was stuck and pressing on entire CPS, then there was no way in hell it was coming out.

*Dremell + diamond disk + 30 minutes = one finger cut
This clearly wasn't going to work.

Looked at other ways to decrease force of CPS. Decided that removing entire front housing of transmission might be best option.

Questions:
What is the best way to address this problem?
