Good morning Whitesaab,
No, I have not bled the air out of the cooling system ever.
AFAIK: Air comes out of the brass nipple by the thermostat much like when I bled the brake fluid out the other clutch brass nipple. I will connect a clear hoe at the nipple to catch the coolant. And do that until there are no bubbles.
I know I am suppose to bleed the system AFTER I flush the coolant.
I will be doing the flush next, and likely again, again, with all the R&R planned.
The coolant puddle I caught twice. It appeared to have come out at the cap I can see while dried trails by the cap. Coolant puddles appeared to be under the expansion tank, I could be wrong.
I inspected as best I could for leaks on the expansion tank itself, I did not see any, Would like to get my hands on some coolant dye, pressurize the tank and check for leaks.
