I bought a 1988 SIS Convertible 6/30/1989 from Boulder Valley VW-Saab. The car was previously owned by the owner of he agency and had about 3000 miles on it. The spec sheet had the following information on it:
"SPECIAL PERFORMANCE GROUP"
Special Ground Effects (meaning, I presume, the SPG body cladding, no SAAB Turbo thing on the trunk lid, and a special little plaque on the glove box lid saying 1988 Spring Time in Sweden")
S.P.B Alloy wheels
160 HP
Leather Interior (Gray)
Heated Seats
Alarm System
Power Electric Roof
Clarion 80 Watt Supreme Sound
Cruise Control
Power Locks
Power Mirror
power Windows
Fog lights

It didn't have the SPG performance box, and I'm not sure about the suspension Package. The front roll bar measured the same diameter as the Accessory "SPG" Roll bar, if that means anything. I suspect that all of the convertibles had that for structural ridgidty.

"Driven only by Dealer"

Quoted Cost was $34,950.00

At that time the 89's were in the same cost ballpark, maybe a little higher, I don't really recall.

It also said "Limited Production", "-less than 350 produced-"
I have heard a range of the numbers produced throughout the 21 years I have owned the car, ranging from some 280 to 350 produced. i don't really know the exact number produced, nor the relative number of mine.

The dealer also told me at the time several interesting things about the cars, true or not:
The cars were issued (1 each) to most or all of the represented at a conference held in Sweden that year. Presumably, according to my dealer, one went to Boulder Valley, Tom Heydman in Littleton, Dean Buick (now Mike Shaw) in Denver, someone in Ft Collins and maybe one in Colorado Springs. Interestingly, not to the Drieling Buick Saab Dealer that used to be in Denver.
i was also told that the dealers were told that they couldn't sell them within a year after they received them.

True or not, it was an interesting tale.
I still have the car, it is still in good shape and has won awards at several Saab conventions, the last the 20th annual, near Cincinatti, OH.
