Yeah it sort of sounds as if it might not be charging. And that could mean most likely worn alternator brushes. You should have been getting a warning light if so. Or a broken ground wire from alternator to block. Or, a pulled-off or broken off skinny wire to alternator push-on.

Two of those three can be fixed by you or someone else fairly handy, at no cost, or modest cost. And the brushes can be replaced by themselves if someone solders, or by buying a voltage regulator which includes new brushes. Those can be put in with the alternator still in the car, by clever use of a very long phillips screwdriver. Still at modest cost.

Searches on here will turn up tips on how to check or do the above.

The bad running and eventual stalling after the jump could have been from not enough juice to fire the sparkplugs-run the brain-run the electric fuel pump-run the brake lights, if in fact the car isn't charging.

But you say you recharged the battery and it won't start. You need to say more - - did the car crank (did starter turn the engine over) when key was turned? Did it crank at normal speed?

If no crank, did headlights come on? If no crank, or if slow crank and dim headlights, could be battery has finally had it. Will it start with a jump?

The list of current problems doesn't sound good. You said you DISCONNECTED all the wires at the ignition switch and cleaned that area? Maybe some of them didn't get put back on exactly right? You have the Bentley diagram so probably you got them right. (Good use for a digital camera, snap a pic before pulling wires, follow it on reattaching.) I think people have asked how those wires go and it's been answered on here, too. Do a search.

The starter can be tested by jumping 12 volts from battery positive terminal to the place where the pushed-on wire should connect. (Pull it off temporarily.) Have car in Park or neutral, and have ignition off unless you want it to start.

Good luck. Bear with the frustration.

You might be one of the lucky ones who has two or more things go wrong about at the same time, who knows?
