There are two freeze plugs in the engine block just beneath the exhaust manifold. They tend to fail because they are not continuously wet. They get wet while coolant is circulating only. This causes them to rust from the inside out. You can develop a pin hole that only squirts when the engine is hot. I had this happen on a low-milage car. I didn't find the leak until the hole got big enough to piss out half my coolant. Fortunately I was only about a mile from home.
