then, yes, you can make it all work. The radio "subsystem" connects to the car wiring through the main pair of 10-pin connectors.
The 1992 and later Saab Clarion radios are a different design from the earlier ones. You cannot just swap the radios, you have to swap out the baskets as well, AND you will need the amplifier that's under the back seat!
The 1992- radios only have amplifiers for the front speakers in the head unit's basket. Two cables, the red and yellow ones, connect the head unit basket to the EQ (or EQ/CD) basket. If you don't have the EQ/CD basket, you will need the shorting plugs for the red and yellow cables out the back of the head unit basket.
There is also a blue cable, that connects the head unit basket to the amplifier.
Finally, you can hook up a green cable to a Clarion CD changer from the EQ basket (both the EQ and EQ/CD have controls for the remote changer)
(the colors refer to the stripes on the cable ends, and the stickers next to the sockets)
The amplifier has a switch to select the equalization for the rear speakers. One setting was used for the 900 hatch/sedan, another for the 900 Convertible, and the last for 9000s. I don't recall which is which, you'd have to experiment. The amplifier feeds the rear speakers. You'll also need to give the amp power, and run the wires for the rear speakers to it.
It sounds great, if you've got good speakers.
