I think I can explain it better. I apologize for being vague. I don't usually work on my car, but this time it is necessary, just to get it to the mechanic.
I am working on the bottom pivot bolt for the alternator. The alternator is in the car, belts and everything are hooked up. What has happened, is the nut came off of the bolt. The bolt then slid all the way back against the firewall. Then, somehow, the bushing closest to the hex hed (non threaded) side of the bolt, crawled its way OUT of the alternator mount, and up the bolt. So, what I have, is a loose bolt, and a bushing on the end of the bolt. It is on the bolt freely. I can spin it, and I can feel the hole in the mount where it is supposed to go.
I understand why you say it would not be possible to re-insert the bushing while the alternator is installed, but I don't have a choice, and don't really see how it came out in the first place.
Any tips on how to get it to go back in, (I can get it almost all the way in at this point) would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you for your help.
