Backup story: Severla months ago I bought a 1994, C900, auto, 2.1 non turbo, classic saab convertable. Complete with all service records, lots of new stuff (Top, 2 yr old Rebuilt Trans, brakes, Air conditioner rebuild, starter, ect. Like 14k spent at independent shops over last 4 years. Regular oil, transmission, differential and brake fluid changes.I got it on Ebay for 1,200 from a guy who bought it at auction to resell. I checked it over and things looked ok I thought, this is the car I have been looking for for a couple of years (too bad no standard trans, only problem). Heaven on earth!

Since I've got it I've been going through the usual, replaced right axle, inner drive, right motor mount. Ok I can live with this.

Here is the problem, the transmission suddenly started slipping badly, so badly that it almost couldn't be driven the 1 mile from my house. I hadn't noticed anything wrong with the transd mission other than slightly brown fluid. Now it slips like crazy, seems to be in 3dr gear or something. Checked fuid level and all seems fine. When cool I could at least drive it but once warmed up severe slipping and what seems like clutch chattering.

Here is what I did but it did not work: Drained 2 1/2 quarts out , replaced with 2 new Type F and a bottle of Lukas. Drove around and eureka! it seemed to be fixed. I said "this is too good to be true" (it was).

I drove it around but after 1/2 hour it started slipping again. I barely got home, but once past second it drove like nothing was wrong.

I then drained again and refilled, drove around and then refilled with new and repeated 4 more times. The drained fluid smelled rally burnt and looked really brown. I hadn't noticed the burnt look and smell before, maybe the Lukas loosened things up?? Even with all of the change it never really looked good.

The current condition is just as bad as it was when all this started, slipping once warmed up.

I've done the obvious, checked levels, changed fluid, added some Lukas. I'm thinking of putting in more Lukas but I'm afraid I'll be wasting my time.

I once had a minivan that has a sliping transmission. I changed the radiator and the slipping stopped, evidently there was a clogged cooler. Ever hear of this in a Saab.

Anyone have any suggestions. My future plans were to change out the transmission for a standard, is this viable? I was hoing to get trough the winter at least.

By the way, I love this car, I just seem to have taken on the previous owner's quest.
