are you talking about soldering the cable from the car harness to the connector on the side of the distributor? If so perhaps a little more investigation before you do that. the usual issue is either the wires inside the distributor are broken inside the insulation, or the wire from the car harness has similar issues at the connector it's part of. Basically, and I know you are there so your way make be best, but basically consider reterminating the external connector into it's wires. the typical issues is that the plastic connector that sits on the side of the distributor gets brittle and breaks. You can use JB weld or a similar product, clean the surfaces of all grease and grime, I like to use a dremel moto tool to scuff the metal and the plastic (carefully!) which gives better adhesion.
But basically if you question is can I bypass the connector without issue, yes, but you will need to secure the wire so that it does not pull the internal green/red/black wires, if they get moved sometimes they get pulled so that the shutter wheels cuts them.... it gets very quiet after that...
