Yes on the washers. Disconnect the line and see how it lines up and estimate the slack to see if the line seems overly stretched. I think there is enough slack to handle maybe a 2" cut. Air in line isn't a problem at all. The banjo starts in the line OK. What seem surprising is how comfortable the plastic is at stretching over the banjo bolt barbs without heat. I've installed a couple banjo bolts with heat a few years ago and had trouble with the line bending over and kinking. I got this method from the 9-3 board when I had to replace my fuel pump insert. I used the same method to press the pump insert into the plastic line on the pump basket.
