as Paul bob mentioned the cable running from the starter to alternator should be replaced if it has not, this wire is the main high-way for the juice to your motor and battery, its at the back of the starter where the juice gets split up to go separate places, when the car is idling there should be no problem with how much current flow you read with your spectromometer, what you need to read is when your driving 65 mph down the road.
the motor will suck up a good portion of juice and the battery the rest, depending if you upgraded the sound system more juice will need to be pulled through this wire. for many months i had this same issue after drooping in a huge sound system, i could drive down the street with the stereo just blasting fine but i would need a booster pack just to get the car running every time i tried to restart it, battery was tested and found to be good just a very low charge,
things to check thoroughly.
there is a ground wire that runs to the alt. and plugs into the back, its small its about a 16 gauge wire, pull this wire off the alternator and inspect the crimp on the end of the wire, mine was only holding on by a few threads of wire and the female end was not tight when i slid it back onto the male end on the alt. these two instance hindered the alternator from even working with the vibration of the motor. this plagued my car for a wile after this was fixed and everything was running fine again then i started to experience the dead battery syndrome again.
being that my car is drawing as much as a power plant everything has to be operating right,
the second time after a good 3 months i found the wire running from alt to starter was fried crispy brown through out the entire wire. a way to check if grab ahold of this wire and see if its flexible, the wire will frie on its ends first right where the wire meets the crimp.
just replace it, its a 4 foot wire but the local auto parts only had a 8 foot, its what im using now, after replacing everything started operating normal once again.
about a month passed and again i found my car couldn't keep the battery charged, this one had me stumped, pulled the alt had it tested, tested the battery, looked at the alts brushes, everything was fine.
it was a good 5 months of using a jumper pack until one day i changed my oil filer, while pulling the filter i bumped the wires running to the starter and they moved indavidualy. after inspecting it really close i found some how the bolt that runs into the starter that all the wires hook to has loosened out of the starter and it was just flopping around the back bolt that holds all the wires to this stud had loosened quite a abit also. i dont know how i missed it before but it happened,
so make a long story short after everything was retightened once again the battery kept its charge, haven't had a prob sense.
these are just points to check if alt, is good and battery keeps its charge. these kind of problems are a pain to pin point and find be really attentive with your search on every wire. check every crimp if its burnt brown replace it.
have fun, just know the problem suxs but when its fixed its just all that much more .... umm... much more,.. i was going somewhere with this but i forgot,. whoops
