I feel your pain. You have to loosen the passenger side engine mount so it can come up just enough to clear the pump to pull it out. Use a floor jack to raise the trans -- I used a block of wood on the floor jack to push up the trans. You only need an inch or so as I recall.
I wouldn't try to take the pump off the bracket -- about impossible to get the bolts back in.
The carriage bolt on the engine mount bracket that goes aft to the pump can be a challenge too -- a good light works wonders to see into the abyss....
