Re: Seat back repair for 1991 convertible seat Posted by Landjet [Email] ![]() ![]() ![]() In Reply to: Seat back repair for 1991 convertible seat, Jon ![]() ![]() |
Frank -- Jon's website photos were what I used to follow the steps. It worked for me -- I forgot to post up that link, so I am glad that Jon was watching out.
I can add a few suggestions that I found along the way. If the up/down does not work, then the worm drive/spur gear has probably failed. I think you can harvest that gear out of any of the aft motor assemblies from another seat, and it is easy to remove and replace.
Secondly, when you have a radical twist like what Jon posted, once repaired it can be deceiving if the seat is "looks" straight. The first time I eyeballed it, it looked good to go, and installed the seat. Then, when I was in the seat, it just did not feel right. I removed the seat and took apart the cable drives from the motor and temp installed the seat. Then I took a variable speed drill and chucked it to the cable so I could rotate it. I adjusted the cables so the seat felt good. Took it out, and then reattached the cable covers to the motors, then put the seat back with all the fasteners.
Now, the seat operates properly and it feels like it is "straight" for my tired old ass.
