Hi, folks.
I did some photos (and measurements) this weekend. Just a brief replay of my story: clicking sound on the IV gear while speeding down having it engaged that converted into toasted pinions after the tranny was dismantled. If the link below doesn't work pls refer to this one (.ru link goes to the page with russian interface while .name links to english version; on both links comments to the pics will be in english): http://photofile.ru/users/zigfried/3680042/
1. Why did it happen? What did I (and/or PO's) do wrong? Local tranny expert says that it's a common failure for the II (2nd) gear cause it's heavy loaded (I gear make wheels slipping when we push it hard; III and others aren't loaded much in city driving) but not the IV one. Probably this car was mostly used for long runs and that's why the IV gear was heavy-loaded more often rather then others (overtaking and such). BUT IT HAS ONLY 200.000 km (140K miles) ON THE CLOCK! I though that later-style trannies go south when it's 300-400K+ not 140-200K! WAF?
2. Will the measurements I took help to determine if a certain pinionset is the right one for me or not? E.g. if you're looking into a box full of different tranny parts and they are not marked.
Just in case here goes the list of values I measured:
IV gear dia over the teeth - 53-53.5 mm
IV gear teeth width (or depth?) - 17 mm
the gearset layshaft:
IV gear width: 16 mm
IV gear dia over the teeth: 94-94.3 mm
shaft ext dia (from IV to I gear): 35, 40, 55, 40 mm
int dia: 21.6 mm
Any input is much appreciated.
