Yeah sorry man, that's a mess! Could be, as pjkbrit suggests, that there was some serious wear of the cluster gear bearings or thrust washer. However, Those gears are burned so I'd say that this looks like poor oiling of the mainshaft assembly was to blame for this catastrophe. Was the plastic tube in place between the main and input shafts? Are all of the oil passages in the mainshaft clear? All you really need to do to get the right gears for your unit is to count the teeth and specify the year model (or tag numbers) of the gearbox, there's only a few variations over the entire production. From the looks of those gears I think that you might be best off to get a different unit entirely (I suspect that there's lots of other hurt parts in there).
