no, the gasoline was NOT in the line, I did the fuel pumps on my work bench. When doing the banjo bolt, remove from the fuel rail, put it in a pair of vise grips, then heat it with a heat shrink gun, and then move to where the nylon line is and push it into that line. If it's not warm enough it won't push in, do it again, and again if necessary, the line will shrink back over the fitting. As another mentioned, if possible get some scrap pieces of the nylon fuel line and practice with them. It's almost like sweating a copper fitting or soldering with an iron, after you find the balance point you will be able to repeat it over and over.
certainly, don't do this in a closed area with gasoline fumes. If you are having the exact problem here with a leak at the banjo fitting, but the car still runs, get outside, open the hood, pull the fuel pump fuse and let the car idle until it stops. that's a great start. again, you are heating the fitting that you *unbolted* from the fuel rail, and heating that piece of metal. I've heated the nylon side a bit as well, about 1/4 time to the nylon, and 3/4 to the metal side of the fitting.
Oh, there is also a fitting with a clamp on it near the air cleaner, and this is the part that goes to the Fuel Pressure regulator. You can unclamp that and pull the line out if you need to for some reason. It has a similar brass fitting as the banjo bolt except it's a smooth sleeve outside the nylon pipe, but the inside is very similar, has three ridges/rings that the pipe grips on.
I'll have to post some pictures for those of you curious, and also for those of you that have not done it and are slamming it.
