I had a similar problem, then one morning car wouldn't start. I played around with the hall sensor at distributor and car started. I peeled back the insulation wiring and it was in bad shape. I found a junker and cut 2 ft of wiring including plastic female end, spliced in and noticed temp needle was consistent again and car has started with no problems (KNOCK KNOCK on wood). Check wiring at hall just in case.
