I just replaced mine and was able to reach it by removing the seat and laying on the floor.
The switch is held in place by two plastic tabs. These can be easily compressed with a pair of needle nose pliers. The switch is actually over the clutch pedal and that is where you should locate it when you "feel around".
If you have to adjust the distance between the stop and bottom of the brake pedal, the bracket that holds the stop light switch is place is 10mm.
I held the switch next to the bracket and estimated the amount of clearance necessary to compress and release the switch when the brake is used.
