Best to start trolling for one of "thatguyslist" Posted by Notnoel [Email] ![]() ![]() In Reply to: Re: Need recs for engine hoist, saab86, Mon, 16 Mar 2009 02:28:16 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
It is pretty common to have multiple listings for engine hoists on "list-o-Craig." And, because demand is fairly low they are pretty cheap. I got mine for $75 (the equivalent of three day's rental. These things are really awkward to move and load into an SUV, but a pick-up truck might be easier.
You might get away with renting one for just a day, but more than likely it'll be a weekend or three days. Buying a used hoist makes everything much more casual. It's a big job, and I don't think you'd want the hassle of worrying about getting the hoist back to the rental shop.
I'd originally planned to sell it when done, but eventually found a corner of the garage to stash it in. But that's another option that can essentially get you the use of the hoist for free, or even a slight profit.
JUst checked CL here in the Washington,DC area and they are priced at $100-145. If I wanted to drive an hour and a half to West VA, I could get one for $50.
Renting doesn't make much sense, particularly if you have plenty of time to wait for one to come along.
