The question was what items did he have to change et. al. He didn't say whether or not the 89 engine would need a head gasket done. If it doesn't, and he keeps that head installed, he should use that intake manifold.

Also, this is a non-turbo setup and using a 2.1 head would not benefit in this case, and in fact I believe it actually will have lower performance. The 2.1 head is more beneficial in turbocharged setups.

The other item is the CPS vs Hall effect connection. You will need to use tte 1989 distributor and run a patch to it from where the 1992 attaches. Really the more I think about this... get a 1991,92, or 1993 engine.

In any event, the best approach is to use all of the mechanical portions of the 89 2.0 engine with any of the items that attach to electrical components of the car (AIC, AMM, perhaps the Throttle body with idle switch, and the injectors. All of these attach to other black boxes in the car and are either run or emission inputs into that version of LH2.4 or LH2.4.1 perhaps). The exhaust manifold is the same, the exhaust gasket will be the same, the INTAKE side is different on the 1992 and the 1989 including the gasket too. Make sure you use a 1986-1990 intake gasket.
