Hi,
on the top of the valve cover there is a fitting with two hoses, a larger and a smaller one. The smaller one is vacuum hose, and it should have a PCV or in Saab lingo "check valve" in line, and then it ends up plugging into the throttle body. There is an arrow or triangle on that valve and it should point towards the throttle body. If it does, then the next thing is to take it out (BE VERY CAREFUL OF THE FITTING ON THE VALVE COVER - THEY BREAK IF YOU LOOK SIDEWAYS AT THEM) and do it at the vacuum line at the valve. I like to use a short length of clean vacuum line for this next, you want to blow through the fitting in each direction, it should not pass air at all in one direction, and should *freely* pass in the other. If it passes both directions, or doesn't pass in either, or is very restricted in the proper direction... replace it. Any like PCV will work. if you go to the usual suspects auto places and ask for a PCV for your Saab 1989 900T they will look in the computer/book and pronounce that there isn't one... Because Saab calls it a "Check Valve". Again, any like item will do.
So if you need to replace it, give it a couple of days after replacement and report back on the results.
